It was my intention to replace it with another Sharp. But I chose this one instead because other Panasonic products have served me long and well and I am particularly partial to a dial mechanism, like my old Sharp's-- but no longer available in that brand--and preferred it to keying in entries on an LCD pad, which some of the reviews here for the 800-watt Sharps were saying had a tendency to go pfft in short order.Of course the Panasonic reviews were grousing about not being able to read the clock except head-on. I decided I'd rather go for a hard-to-read clock/display window than a potentially faulty LCD panel, so I opted for this one and I'm glad I did. I have tried on numerous occasions in the two weeks I've... It's hard to believe this microwave made it to the production line with this obvious design flaw. This is a countertop model. I'm 5'11", and I have to stoop down to read the display. My wife is 5'3". It's not so much of an issue for her. The unit we received from Amazon had another flaw. The four feet wouldn't rest flat on the counter. I solved this by sticking a 1/8" thick rubber "furniture protector" thingy under one of the feet. I don't think our granite counter top is that far out of whack, so I'm blaming the microwave. Even with the flaws taken into consideration, I still think this is the best microwave in this size. It has a nice solid feel, good buttons, intuitive controls, and it looks fantastic in our stainless kitchen. It's just the right size for our needs. We don't do any serious cooking in it - just reheating and defrosting and such - and for that, it's perfect... Replaced an older Sharp with this one and it works great. Great styling on the 'chassis' it's small, but fits all regular plates. Is it 'better' than another 800W Microwave? No. It looks better, works well. And is a bit more expense. I can take that. However, one flaw impossible to overlook is the IMPOSSIBLE-to-read display. Possibly the worst design ever; it's green, and can only be seen direct on (as it illumanted the 2nd reflective layer). Go 10 degrees either side, you might as well look at a green blob (or, if you move further, nothing). I assume Panasonic will fix this is later revisions, but this is unexcusable for something this standard. Mind you, head on (and I mean, HEAD on) it's fine..... If you don't care what the display shows, a great unit. If you are buyign this for someone with less than 39/39 eyesight............ |
